Bonfire Night 🔥

5th Nov 2024

In a lively and engaging Forest School session this week, we took part in an exciting and educational activity centered around fire safety, as we created a pretend bonfire using natural materials found in the quadrangle.

We learned about the dangers of fire, how to stay safe around it, and the importance of having an adult nearby when dealing with flames. Emphasis was placed on safety measures such as maintaining a safe distance and never attempting to light a fire.

Then the fun bit, we built a “pretend bonfire” using sticks, twigs, leaves, and small logs, all collected from the school grounds.  We talked about the different sizes of wood to help make a fire burn.

The session also provided a valuable opportunity us to practice teamwork and problem-solving as we worked together to collect the materials and arrange our pretend bonfire.
Our session ended with a group discussion about what we had learned and how we could stay safe during real bonfires, such as always having a responsible adult to supervise and making sure the fire is fully extinguished when done.

This type of outdoor learning encourages our children to build a deeper connection with nature, develop practical skills, and gain knowledge in a safe and supportive environment.
