Primary One's Journey Through Time: Exploring Toys from the Past
Our Primary 1 class recently had an exciting adventure into the past with a wonderful workshop led by Madeline McGreevy from Kathleen’s Attic. We had the chance to play with toys that are over 100 years old, including rag dolls, trains, spinning tops and Russian dolls! We were very careful with these precious toys, using gentle hands, as many of them are irreplaceable.
During the workshop, we learned about the materials old toys were made from, such as wood and tin, and how they moved by pushing and pulling—no batteries or electricity needed! We also compared these old toys to the colourful plastic ones made in factories today.
Madeline showed us black and white photos of schools from the past and we noticed that children didn’t wear uniforms like we do now. To make it even more fun, we got to dress up in typical clothing worn by children to school back then!
We all had a fantastic time playing with these old toys and some of us even decided we liked them more than the new ones! What a fun and educational experience it was. Watch our video to see what we got up to. Well done P1!
