Maths Week in Primary 1
Primary 1 had a super exciting week with a special focus on maths and problem solving. We started each day with a maths puzzle of the day and each child had the opportunity to solve a problem that involved sharing 14 bones with 5 dogs.
Their instruction was to “share the bones so that each dog has AT LEAST 2.” It was really interesting to see how each child completed the task and it created lots of conversation.
Did each dog get the same amount?
Why not?
Explain to me and show me how you shared the bones.
This week we also learned:
Making patterns with two colours
Number recognition and formation
Counting within 5 with one to one correspondence
Matching numbers to Numicon shapes
Comparing objects for size (big-small, thick-thin, wide-narrow and tall-short)
Have a look at some of the photos we have taken over the last couple of weeks!
