Maths Week in Primary One

21st Oct 2016

This week was Maths Week and we had so much fun learning about the number 3.

The children have been learning to form the number 3 in sand and using playdough. They have also been learning to write 3 in paint and with markers and pencils.

The boys and girls have been making sets of 3 using playdough to make 3 blind mice! They have also been making 3 storey towers and making necklaces with 3 beads.

Our wonderful Numicon resources are also being used to help the children explore the number 3 and how it is made. They figured out that 3 can be made using the shapes 1+1+1 and also using 2+1. They had so much fun discovering what the number 3 shape looks and feels like by playing "guess who" with the feely bag.

The boys and girls love using the number lines and number fans to find the number 3 and can use the eleflips to show 1, 2 and 3 elephants.

This week has had a special halloween theme. To link with the number 3, the children have been learning about triangles because it is also the shape of a witch's hat! They went on a shape hunt to find all the triangles that Mrs Rogers hid around the Primary One area and they also had fun doing a "colour by numbers" activity to colour a pumpkin using the numbers 1,2 and 3.

Maths Week was so much fun!
