🦉Older Wiser Learner 🦉
Today our Digital Leaders / DreamSpace Ambassadors took party in an online training session based on the OWL project - Older Wiser Learner.
This project is based around the older members of our community and how some of them struggle with ever changing technology. Maybe our grandparents don’t know how to use the apps on their smart tv or to use a family WhatsApp group.
We looked at cyber security. Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting systems, networks and data from digital attack.
Our eldery community are vulnerable and sometimes more likely to be scammed.
During the training, we explored lots of scenarios that explored how people can get scammed including emails promising prizes, suspicious friend requests, unsecured WiFi network, phishing pop-ups and mystery links from random phone numbers.
Our session also taught us about Artificial Intelligence. AI can be used for good reasons but also for bad. A deep fake is a computer generated video or image that looks real but is actually made by AI to replace or manipulate someone’s appearance and actions. It’s like a high tech way of pretending or changing thing a in videos. Unfortunately, our older community members find it harder to identify take photos.
It’s important that we teach our OWLs about
- Strong passwords
- Careful clicking
- No personal in formation to strangers
- Spotting scams
We are planning a tea & tech event with a cybersecurity escape room for OWLs in our community.
Keep an eye out for the date!
