Our Dream Space leaders π
Our digital leaders started their Dream Space Ambassadors programme this morning.
We had our first training session on Micro:Bit coding.
What we learned:
π»Coding is all about giving computers instructions in a language they understand.
π» We explored all the different types of blocks (‘digital lego’) to make our Micro:Bits do things.
π» That a string in computing can have letters, numbers, characters and symbols.
π» Bugs are errors in codes that needed to be fixed. Debugging is finding and fixing mistakes in code.
π» The sequence of code is the specific order of instructions for the computer to follow. Think of your computer as a robot. It needs exact instructions. We got some great ideas for unplugged activities to do in class like the human robot, recipe challenge or origami.
π» We investigated connecting our Micro:Bits to the computer.
π» Loops is a way to make the computer repeat a task automatically. These are needed to do things quicker.
π» We used a loop to make an animation (a moving picture).
π» A conditional statement in coding is like a rule that makes the computer so something only if a specific condition is met. IF something is true, THEN the program does a certain task.
π» We made a virtual coin toss using a ‘on shake’ block, a ‘if true then else’ block. We needed a ‘pick random true or false’.
We can’t wait to deliver lessons to classes in our school.
This is going to be an exciting journey with our Dream Space Ambassador Team!
