P4 Trip to Silent Valley
Water is one of P4's World Around Us topics and on Friday 17th June they visited the Silent Valley where a representative called Pat McCauley from Water NI showed them a PowerPoint on the history of the Silent Valley. Then he took them to the Visitors' Centre to talk to them about the many ways we can save water and he told them lots of interesting facts about water. He also showed them artefacts from the building of the reservoir. Then the children had a picnic lunch before going up to see the reservoir and the big overflow.
Next they were put into groups of 3 and they went orienteering. They had to answer lots of questions and the clues to the answers were written on wooden posts along the route. To finish off the session with Pat they went on a Scavenger Hunt where they had to find lots of things in nature eg. something hard, something smooth, something edible etc and stick them on a prepared sheet.
To finish off the educational, exciting and enjoyable day the children got time to play in the playpark. The sun shone the whole day and everyone had a great time!
