P7 STEM Experiment
3rd Nov 2023
P7 had great fun learning about floating, sinking, density and buoyancy. The children made Cartesian Divers which floated in water. They then inserted their divers into a water bottle to learn and explore about density and buoyancy. The divers initially floated in the water bottle but once the children squeezed their water bottle they began to sink. This was because squeezing the bottle was applying pressure to the air bubble in the straw and therefore reducing its size. As the bubble’s size reduced, the straw and paper clip became less buoyant and therefore started to sink. Releasing the pressure on the water bottle each time causes the diver to rise back to the top of the bottle.
