Primary 6/7 Become Buddy Chat Superstars! ⭐️
Our Primary 6/7 class recently completed the Buddy Chat programme with Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Colgan, a highly impactful initiative designed by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). This programme equips children with essential communication skills, enabling them to support and engage with peers who have speech, language or hearing difficulties.
Through the Buddy Chat programme, Primary 6/7 learned valuable techniques to communicate more effectively with children who may experience challenges in expressing themselves or understanding others. They were trained in strategies like active listening, using visual supports and simplifying language to ensure all students feel included and understood. By the end of the programme, our class members became Buddy Chat Superstars—confident, compassionate and skilled in working with children who require additional support.
The benefits of this programme extend far beyond the classroom. The skills developed through Buddy Chat have empowered our P6/7 class to become more empathetic and patient, while also improving their overall communication abilities.
This forward-thinking initiative not only prepares our children to be more effective communicators but also instills values of kindness and social responsibility. By teaching these skills at a young age, we are nurturing a generation of children who are not only more aware of the challenges faced by their peers but also equipped to offer meaningful support.
We are incredibly proud of this group of children for completing the Buddy Chat programme and embracing their new roles as communicative champions. We are excited to see the positive impact they will continue to have on our school community.
