School Mass
We had a very special celebration in school on Wednesday 26th September. We had our school Mass to bless the new school year.
Fr Bonne was the priest who celebrated this Mass. He is on holiday from Uganda and has been working in our parish this month. He returns to Uganda on Wednesday 3rd October.
He welcomed the children in his own language and he translated what he had said for them. 'Habari gani?' 'How are you?' was his welcoming words. At the end of Mass he told the children that he was filled with joy and that it had been a privilege for him to have been with them.
Wednesday 26th September was also European Day of Languages throughout the world. To mark this day we had prepared a special welcome at the beginning of Mass. 8 children welcomed all the school and parish communities in 8 different languages.
This is what the children said:
Viktoria: 'Dubro utro' Bulgarian (Good morning)
Marek: 'Dobre rano' Slovak (Good morning)
Herkus: 'Sveiki' Lithuanian (Welcome)
Kacper: 'Witamy' Polish (Welcome)
Markuss: 'Sveiki' Latvian (Hello)
Christopher: 'Udvozoljuk' Hungarian (Welcome)
Katie Rose: 'Failte' Irish (Welcome)
Sophie (youngest child in school): 'Good morning and welcome'
The theme of our Mass was 'Harvest'. The readings, Offertory procession, bidding prayers and communion reflection were lead by our new School Leadership Team. Our school choir lead the music with Linda and Miss Somerville (P7 teacher)
This was a very prayerful and joyful celebration. Well done everyone.
