Many thanks to all the children who took part in today's St Patrick's Day Assembly. The children fully embraced this assembly from the outset as they worked extremely hard to learn their speaking parts, prayers, poetry, dance, music and songs. The children told the story of St Patrick with Blaine Rooney acting the role of St Patrick. The class then sang the traditional hymns of Céad Míld Fáilte Romhat and Hail Glorious St Patrick. After this, the children recited an Irish Feis Poem which was followed by Grace Donnelly and Eoin Duffy taking part in an Irish conversation. Eoin Duffy also performed Hail Glorious St Patrick on the clarinet. Amy Harper, Skyler White, Kaiden McAlinden and Darragh Sloan demonstrated the skills of our Gaelic Games which was then followed by Irish jokes led by Ryan McCartan. The P7s finished the assembly by singing a county medley with many verses from well known Irish Songs. Brooke Rooney (P5/6) and Miya McCartan (P2) danced an Irish Reel and the school traditional group made up of Nathan Travers, Lilli McBurney, Erin Rice, Erin O'Connor, Aimee Rogers and Aoife Maginn performed traditional music pieces including the 'Mountains of Pomeroy' dedicated to our past Principal, Mrs Donnelly. It was a superb show by all involved and everyone at St Colman's wishes you all a very Happy St Patrick's Day.
