☀️ Welcome to Summer Concert 2020 ☀️
Our curtain has opened onto a 'stage' we have never seen before in St Colman's. The boys and girls from P7 have been given a unique opportunity to showcase their wide range of talents.
The 🎶music prefects🎶 would like to take this opportunity to share their musical experiences with you. Thank you to Cliona, Orlaith and Kuba for sharing with us.
From Cliona Finnegan: 'From the day we are born we are surrounded with music. For me, music has mostly been the enjoyment of listening to my favourite singers. Songs come in various styles and I follow Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish and Lewis Capaldi. My favourite country singer is Nathan Carter.
Since I started in St Colman's I have developed an interest in Irish music. I started tin whistle lessons with Danny in P4. I went on to join the local Comhaltas Mourne Group and practice every Tuesday night.
This year I became the head of the school Traditional Music Group. I have had the pleasure of representing An Riocht in the Scor competitions two years in a row. Mr Colgan spent many hours practising with us as a group to ensure we were confident and note perfect.
The Traditional group took part in the Parish Carol Service last year. It was most enjoyable. We spent many Sunday mornings practising together with other musicians in Atticall Church.
I took part in the Warrenpoint tin whistle Feis this year and I was overjoyed to win 1st place.
I am disappointed that there will be no Spring Concert this year. As a group we had already picked our songs and started practising.
I like to practice at home as much as possible and I would suggest to anyone who is thinking of playing a musical instrument to practice very often. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect.'
From Orlaith Travers: 'Music is something I have loved for as long as I can remember. Since I was very young I've loved to sing and listen to others singing and playing music. By attending Comhaltas in Warrenpoint and lessons in school, I have learned to play many instruments such as the tin whistle, bodhran, guitar and how to read music. With dedication and a little practice every day, anyone can play music. It is good to play solo or in groups and to be able to represent your club or school at Scor or in the Feis.
We are so lucky our school has such a big selection to choose from. Music is all around us, every day. By trying a new instrument or singing, you learn a new hobby, make new friends and it is a talent that will stay with you forever.'
From Kuba Fuik: 'Hello everyone. This year I'm ending primary school. In this school I started loving music.
In P4 I started playing the guitar, then started playing the double bass in P5. Thank you to all the teachers that encouraged me to play instruments. This is how I started the journey with music.
Music helps me overcome a bad mood. When I play the world becomes happier. And more beautiful. I would like to play in a band one day. Who knows? Maybe I will compose my own songs someday😃
Don't be afraid of mistakes. Everyone starts from scratch and it takes more time for progress. Try to play to your favourite song and play different instruments. Try to create your own music as well.
I wish you all the best with starting and continuing to learn to play musical instruments.'
