Warm welcome at An Riocht GAC
St Colman's school community was very excited when they received an invitation from Joseph Donnan from An Riocht GAC to attend the welcome of the GAA President, Mr John Horan, on Wednesday 23rd May. He was on an official visit to all the clubs who are hosting the Feile this year.
A group of children who are members of the camogie and gaelige football teams attended with Mrs Donnelly and Barney. The children have football training every Wednesday after school. Barney is one of the coaches. He is an active and stalwart member of An Riocht GAC and a popular member of staff. The children also have camogie training every Thursday after school with Sheila Mc Alinden, Teresa White (parent) and Julie Ann Mc Aleenan (parent) all dedicated and hard working members of an Riocht GAC.
All the children in school have GAA coaching once a week during school with Niall Quigley (P1-3) and Ambrose Rogers (P4-7). They are taught many skills and techniques. The commitment, enthusiasm and dedication of the coaches certainly is inspiring and encouraging for the children and the future of Down GAA.
We were warmly welcomed by the chairperson of An Riocht, Mrs Tara Campbell, who is also the mother of Ryan (P6). There was a great atmosphere as everyone waited in anticipation for the President's arrival. The members had worked tirelessly to prepare for this momentous occasion. The grounds and premises were in perfect condition. Mrs Donnelly was given a guided tour of the club and was delighted to meet with many friends from the Men's Shed and other club members.
Meanwhile the children had a training session on the field where they proudly gave a display of their skills. The President joined in with them.
Refreshments were later served in the club. Seafood chowder was served which was delicious and well received by everyone! This was truly a memorable day for all who was at An Riocht GAC. Thank you to An Riocht GAC!
