Winnie’s New Computer - Wellbeing Week in P1

22nd Oct 2024

Primary 1 enjoyed a wonderful Forest School lesson learning the importance of balancing screen time with outdoor play and nature.

We read the story of Winnie’s New Computer and found that Winnie becomes frustrated because she relies too much on her computer. We talked about how Winnie might have felt if she spent some time outside instead of on the computer.

The children went on a nature treasure hunt and found lots of different leaves, pine cones, sticks, stones and berries. They used their senses, noticing colours, shapes and textures.

We gathered together and closed our eyes, took deep breaths and listened to the sounds of nature.

Winnies used her computer but nature is amazing too! So we built special nature sculptures with everything that we found on our treasure hunt. We made Winnie’s broomstick, Winnie’s house, Winnie’s wand and lots of other creations.

Finally, we sat in a circle and reflected on how happy, calm and relaxed we all felt outside and the importance of balance. Winnie learned that you need to take breaks from technology and enjoy the world around her. Today, we did just that!
